Check out the first participatory defense blog - before we called it 'participatory defense'. We named our work after Albert Cobarrubias, a volunteer here in San Jose, CA, who was one of our core members. He loved his city, his neighborhood, the people that raised him who he wanted to protect from the overpolicing and racial profiling he personally saw and experienced growing up. He was tragically killed in 2010, and we miss him everyday. In his memory, we named our San Jose hub the "Albert Cobarrubias Justice Project" so that every time we brought someone home, we can say his name and he is forever with us.
