Time Saved: From Facing 25 to Life to Helping Community in ATL through Participatory Defense

Our family Nia from the Atlanta Participatory Defense hub was facing 25 to life back in 2022. She was denied bond and not assigned a public defender. Nia ended up having to spend $10,000 on a lawyer who did not offer relief. She got connected with Metro Atlanta Participatory Defense (Barred Business) and Black Mamas Day Bail Out, a program bailing out black mothers on Mother's Day. Nia was bonded out on a $100K bail and continued fighting from the outside. She started attending meetings, stayed under their housing program and three years later, she is a core member who helps others going through similar situations.
